You can see the night skies when the sky is clear. On the public lakes nearby, people can paddleboard and boat. A short walk will take you to the National Forest. Whitefish Mountain Resort has great skiing and snowboarding opportunities. There is no public transport near the cabin building. You will need to have a reliable car.
Columbia Falls is the closest town, located 8 miles away. The county maintains roads in the area, but in winter, if there’s a lot of ice and snow, a 4WD vehicle may be necessary to get around. HBO, Direct TV, blue-ray player and a wide selection of DVDs are available. Wireless internet is available but it’s not fast enough to watch videos. The phone service inside the cabin is spotty. However, you can reach all major carriers from outside. Remember to dress appropriately for the mountain.
The people living near the log home are quiet and respectful to the mountains and wilderness surrounding them. The North Fork is only a few mile away and offers great hiking opportunities away from the tourist paths. Glacier National Park has been called the “Crown of the Continent”. It is so beautiful. In the winter you can drive your sled along the National Forest roads in order to reach Whitefish Mountain Resort. However, the trails are not always open. Winter offers a variety of outdoor activities. Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell is only 17 minutes from the city. The west entrance of Glacier National Park can be reached in 15 to 20 minutes from the log building. It takes 8-10 minutes to reach the post office, restaurant or food store in Columbia Falls. Whitefish is only 30 to 35 minutes away from the ski slopes and restaurants. You could go to Canada. Waterton Lakes National Park (just across the border) is only 3 hours from Banff.
