He urged fans to reconsider their jumping-to-conclusion thinking, “Some of you out there will waste your life on the internet calling Shohei a gambling addict.” For Fuzzy, this case is now more of false claims but of a larger issue of fan’s internet villain narratives: “Some of you out there will waste your life on the internet that Shohei is using Ippei as a fall guy and Shohei is the gambling guy. This might sound disrespectful, but some of you use the time and passion that you are wasting and apply it to your work and schooling.”

For the first time since the scandal broke out, Ohtani addressed the media on Monday, offering a statement that sought to clarify his involvement: “I am very saddened and shocked that someone who I trusted has done this.” He was visibly emotionally affected by the betrayal by Mizuhara, who was part of Shohei’s inner circle for years and his tenure at the Los Angeles Angels.
He further added, “I never bet on baseball or any other sports; I never asked somebody to do that on my behalf, and I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports.” His words were a firm attempt to clear his image and distance himself from the accusations. He reinforced the fact that he did not know of Mizuhara’s gambling debts or illegal betting practices.
