Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong told PEOPLE in 2022 that their friendship dates back to working together on the 2019 movie ‘Serenity’

Jeremy Strong has a good friend in Anne Hathaway.

Hathaway, 41, posed for photos on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of The Apprentice, Strong’s new movie with Sebastian Stan on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The Academy Award and Emmy-winning actress wore a long black coat, matching thigh-high boots and a red purse for the screening of Strong’s movie, in which he portrays infamous New York City lawyer Roy Cohn opposite Stan’s Donald Trump.

Hathaway’s friendship with Strong, 45, dates back to them first meeting on the set of the 2019 thriller Serenity. They later re-teamed to make 2022’s Armageddon Time, and the pair opened up to PEOPLE about their friendship while promoting the latter film back in October 2022.

“I think the bond became stronger and more personal after that because I spent time with Jeremy’s character on Serenity. It was so lovely when we had the personal moments on that film,” she said at the time, adding that her and Strong’s “lives kind of opened up in a similar way at a similar time in that we both became parents at roughly the same time.”

Hathaway shares two sons with her husband Adam Shulman, whom she has been married to since 2012, while Strong shares three daughters with his wife Emma Wall. In October 2022, Strong noted to PEOPLE that one of his daughters “learned how to walk in the house we were sharing” with Hathaway’s family on a vacation together.

“From my perspective,” Hathaway said at the time, “this gorgeous friendship has taken root.”

Strong, who won a Tony Award in June for his performance in Enemy of the People, appears on the big screen for the first time since Armageddon Time in The Apprentice, a movie that follows Trump’s friendship and working relationship with lawyer Cohn in the 1970s through Cohn’s death at 58 in 1986.

“Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé — someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win,” an official synopsis for the movie, which also costars Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife Ivana, reads.

Hathaway, meanwhile, has appeared in two movies in 2024, including the Prime Video romantic drama The Idea of You and Mother’s Instinct.

The Apprentice is in theaters Oct. 11.
