The pair will become the first father-son duo in NBA history if JJ Redick gives them the nod
The Los Angeles Lakers camp was already excited to bring Bronny James on board but now that might be hitting a brand new level after the teenager dunked a three-pointed over his dad in practise, earning the hype from his colleagues.
Bronny was drafted as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and when he finally takes to the court at the Crypto.com Arena, or elsewhere, he and LeBron will become the first father-son duo in NBA history adding to the Lakers‘ illustrious heritage.
But whilst the 19-year-old faced criticism for being picked based on his father’s legacy, despite being a consensus four-star recruit, he’s already looking to silence his haters before even stepping onto the court by showing off ahead of preseason.
Mike Trudell, Lakers reporter for Spectrum SportsNet, writes that the prospect nailed a three-pointer whilst being guarded by his dad, showing his talent and the strength in depth the team now possesses as the other stars cheered him on.
“There’s a lot of excitement,” LeBron said of his son. “It’s pure joy, to be honest, to be able to come to work every day, put in the hard work with your son every day, and be able to see him continue to grow.
“We push each other. He pushes me; I push him. We push our teammates. Just a very joyous moment, not only for myself but for our family.”
Who do the Los Angeles Lakers play next?
The Los Angeles Lakers are next in action on Friday, September 4 as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Acrisure Arena from 22:30 ET/19:30 PT in a preseason contest.
The Lakers will also kick off the NBA season against the Timberwolves on October 23, meaning Friday’s clash could give fans a rare insight into how opening night might go for the James‘ and Anthony Davis.
The Lakers are looking to improve upon their .573 record from the 2023/24 season which also saw them win the NBA In-Season tournament before later being eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA postseason.
