Tiger Woods waited 19 years to get revenge on Presidents Cup caddie after two-word insult

Tiger Woods proved that revenge is a dish best served cold with a cheeky jibe at the 2019 Presidents Cup.

The 15-time major waited 19 years to get his own back on Vijay Singh’s caddie after an infamous singles match at the 2000 match between Team USA and the Internationals.

Paul Tesori was Singh’s caddie that day – in only the third event he had ever caddied on the PGA Tour.

But he quickly thrust himself into the spotlight by wearing a hat that read ‘Tiger Who?’ on the back.

The bold move was seen by Tesori as good-natured banter, a view shared by Singh. However, a focused Woods was far from amused.

Tiger had won three of the four majors in 2000 with Singh picking up the win at The Masters – the only major that evaded him that year.

Preferring to do his talking on the course, Woods played the last 13 holes of the match in 7-under par to beat Singh 2 & 1.

Tesori could do nothing but apologise to Woods after the event but the story of his hat overshadowed Tiger’s success among the media.

Time may have passed by but Woods never forgot that day in Gainesville, Virginia.

At the 2019 event, Woods reminded Tesori of his past attempts to knock the star off his game by re-enacting the famous moment.

The pair are now friends but that did not stop Woods from getting a little payback of his own.

The pair posed for a photo which saw Woods don a hat with the words ‘Paul Who? 2&1.”

Speaking of the pair’s banter, Tesori said: “He [Woods] just loves that story. “Tiger makes me tell that story every single team event. He laughs and enjoys every aspect of it.

“Each year he’s like ‘Paulie, Paulie, come on, let’s hear it! Let’s hear the story!’ And I’m like ‘Here we go again.’”

Woods was the star for Team USA in 2019, starring as both player and captain as his side staged a stunning comeback in Royal Melbourne.

This year, the Americans are having it all their own way once again, racing into a 5-0 lead after day one in Royal Montreal.

Tensions boiled over on Thursday during a heated fourball match which featured a riled-up Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim.

Coverage of the 2024 Presidents Cup continues on talkSPORT 2 at 10pm on Friday.
