Brad Pitt has been left “hurt” by daughter Shiloh Jolie’s decision to legally drop his surname.
But according to some sources, the Hollywood star has not given up hope of reconciling with his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren after the “dust settles” on his protracted divorce from Angelina Jolie.
Shiloh officially dropped her father’s name on August 19
Shiloh officially changed her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie on August 19 – three months after she first filed to drop Pitt’s surname on her 18th 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡day in May.
Now, sources close to the matter say that Brad Pitt, 60, respects his daughter’s decision and is used to the strained relationship he has with his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren and ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 49.
“Brad Pitt knew this was going to happen and there’s nothing he can do about it right now. It’s sad but Brad Pitt has to accept the strained relationship between Brad and the kids and Angelina,” a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
The source added that Brad will always leave the door open for his estranged 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren if they want to reconnect in the future.
Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for the removal of her father’s name, so Angie didn’t know and couldn’t speak up.
The source continued: “Brad respects Shiloh’s decision. He loves her and no matter what happens, he’s there for Shiloh and any of his kids whenever they need him, no questions asked. But it’s up to them to decide what their next step is.”
Brad and Angelina filed for divorce in September 2016 and have had a strained relationship ever since.
But a second source added that Brad believes his kids will come to him when enough time has passed for them to look back on the family split and realize how important he was in their lives.
“Brad feels in his heart that after the dust settles and the years have passed, he will have a fair chance to be a part of Shiloh’s life again.
He knows that with some of the other kids who aren’t his biological 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, they don’t understand and may never allow him back into their lives.
But Brad really feels that with Shiloh, as well as Vivienne and Knox, when this divorce is over and the litigation is behind them, they will take a good look in the mirror and realize that their dad is a part of them,” the source said.
Brad Pitt is heartbroken over his kids’ growing alienation but believes he can mend ties with them
Brad Pitt is now moving on from the pain of his 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s estrangement and remains optimistic that things can change.
The source added: “Brad accepts that Shiloh has made this decision and while it is painful, he also believes that there will come a time when she sees things for what they are.”
Shiloh is not the first of Brad’s 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren to make such a move, after older sister Zahara appeared to have Pitt’s name removed from her name when she enrolled at Spelman College in 2023.
Sister Vivienne also had her surname removed from the Playbill credits for The Outsiders – the musical she helped produce with her mother.
Brad Pitt Respects Daughter Shiloh’s Decision
Regarding Shiloh’s decision to drop her father’s last name, the source said: “Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angie didn’t know and couldn’t speak up.”
