An old proverb states that a man’s best buddy is his dog. That’s a concept that Shohei Ohtani has definitely embraced—and then some.
Ohtani expanded on that concept during Tuesday’s All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Frutitas when he wore a suit with Decoy, his dog, printed on the inside.
“My dog is the reason I chose this color, and here he is wearing my suit,” Ohtani remarked via interpreter Will Ireton.
Ohtani’s dog, Decoy, was with him when he won his 2023 AL MVP Award on MLB Network, as we subsequently learned. Since then, the two players’ bond has only grown more well-known, to the point that the Dodgers will be giving out an Ohtani-Decoy bobblehead at Dodger Stadium on August 28.
Ohtani is very different from the average human in many aspects. But in this particular sense, Ohtani’s devotion for his dog makes him incredibly accessible.
