The trailer of Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Abhishek Banerjee’s film Stree 2 is out. From the trailer, it looks like the film will pick up from where the first film in the horror-comedy franchise ended in 2018. The town of Chanderi is once again haunted, but not by the spirit of ‘Stree’. This time the residents of Chanderi, including Rajkummar, Abhishek, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana, are on a mission to fight against a new monster. Tamannaah Bhatia also appears in the trailer.
The trailer begins with Pankaj Tripathi’s Rudra Bhaiya introducing the new threat to the people of Chanderi, ‘Sarkata’ (headless monster). To protect them from this terror comes Shraddha Kapoor, who presumably was the evil spirit in the prequel of the film. The people of Chanderi pray to Stree this time, “O stree raksha karna”, instead of telling her, “O stree kal aana”.
The highlight of the trailer is its perfect mix of chills and chuckles. While there are visuals of the deadly head of ‘Sarkata’, there are also hilarious one-liners that are sure to leave you in splits. At one moment in the trailer, Tripathi’s Rudra Bhaiya says Sarkata is an influencer who is there in Chanderi only to increase his followers.
In Stree, which was one of the biggest box office hits of 2018, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor played the lead. The film had a cliffhanger ending as Shraddha’s character was seen holding the ponytail which belonged to the evil spirit and merging it with her own. This evil spirit created mayhem in the small town of Chanderi by kidnapping men at night during the festive season.

The film’s plot was based on the urban legend Nale Ba (Come tomorrow) of Karnataka. It was based on the Indian folk legend about a witch who abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind.
Actor Abhishek Banerjee, who reprises his role as Jana in Stree 2, said he is excited to bring back the character on-screen. “I am excited to reprise my role as ‘Jana’ in ‘Stree 2’ alongside some of the industry’s finest talents. This character has a special bond with the audiences, and I am committed to delivering my best once again. The love I get for the character even today, especially among kids, is truly endearing,” Banerjee said in a statement.
Stree 2, produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, will hit cinema halls on Independence Day, August 15. It will face a box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.
