Man Utd legends tear into Ten Hag’s ‘AWFUL’ flops as horror records tumble after disastrous Forest defeat

MANCHESTER UNITED legends have torn into Erik ten Hag’s “awful” flops after Saturday’s disastrous Nottingham Forest defeat sent more horror records tumbling.

The Red Devils failed to build on their epic midweek comeback against Aston Villa as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away from home.

United were second best all over the pitch as they failed to show any intensity.

And after Morgan Gibbs-White scored a late winner for Forest, United legends Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville showed their disdain for their old side’s performance.

It’s no surprise either as United smashed more horror records to round off a terrible year.

For starters, the Red Devils have never had fewer points on the board at this stage of a season.

United have picked up just 31 points from 20 games, winning ten matches and losing nine.

They have also scored the least amount of goals at this stage of a season, hitting the target 22 times while conceding 27.

Saturday’s defeat at Forest also marked United’s fifth loss in December — the first time that’s happened since 1933.

Meanwhile, their season total of nine defeats in the opening 20 games hasn’t been seen since the 1989/90 campaign.

Gary Neville unleashed both barrels on United at the final whistle

And it’s as many defeats as they suffered in the whole of the 2022/23 term.

Finally, their record of 21 defeats in all competitions this year is the fourth-worst in their history.

Ferdinand was less than complimentary as he took to Twitter after the Forest defeat, saying: “Waited until 90th minute to show any urgency… ffs!”

But Neville had the most to say as he laid into United’s flops, saying: “Manchester United are back to what they are — inconsistent and awful.

“They walk off the pitch a defeated bunch. United fans behind the goal will go off so disappointed.

“But let’s not forget about Nottingham Forest who have been absolutely wonderful today.

“This almost has nothing to do with Ten Hag. From 45 minutes to 45 minutes, they’ve gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. And now it’s the ridiculous.

“United were inferior today, they’re inferior quite often to teams lower down the league.

“All over the pitch they were outrun, outfought, outthought. I’m not sure what this United team is, it’s a very difficult watch.

“It’s a really up and down season, and more down than up. Some of these performances are really, really poor.

“Ten Hag’s been allowed to bring in who wants and that shouldn’t be allowed to happen. He’s got some good players and some poor players.”

But Ten Hag stated that he expected to be given a chance to improve things by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford after the former’s purchase of 25 per cent of Man Utd.

And he added that he expected the pair to sympathise with the Red Devils’ injury woes.

Former Ajax boss Ten Hag commented: “Also some issues but mainly the injuries hold us back in the process. In January we have a lot of players returning so then our levels can be higher.

“Definitely [Dave Brailsford] will see we have our problems. You want to build on the last result but we have to change our striker.

“It’s clear the result is very disappointing

“We should have invested more in these moments. We created less before half-time. We didn’t do [enough]. The second half was better.

“We are losing the game by a goal and you saw the fight in the team. We had our chances, the football in the second half was better.

“They kept believing and going until the end but of course when the result is this, we are disappointed.

“The players are not happy with this but we have to do better. We haven’t played with the same team in a row.

“We had to change again so every time we have to swap our team.

“That doesn’t help or support the routines of the team and it explains why you are so inconsistent.

“We had nine different partnerships in the back.

“It doesn’t matter as well, the fans don’t want to hear this, they want to see us winning and that is what we have to serve them.”
