‘Let’s be honest’: Peter Crouch suggests 22-year-old Chelsea player isn’t good enough after Brentford loss

Peter Crouch suggests Nicolas Jackson doesn’t posses the quality to be Chelsea’s first-choice striker after watching his latest performance.

Chelsea’s disappointment at Stamford Bridge continued on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 2-0 home loss against London rivals Brentford in the Premier League. Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo netted second-half goals to gift the visitors all three points.

The Blues now have just one victory in their last 13 league games at home, which is an alarming record for this team.

Chelsea struggles

Yes, Chelsea have scored a few goals recently and looked better going forward. It was the same old issue in attack that cropped up versus Brentford, though.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded 17 shots during Saturday’s match, but only two were on target.

Nicolas Jackson was recalled to the starting line-up against Brentford to lead the line, but yet again he couldn’t find the 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁er touch in the opposition’s penalty box. The 22-year-old striker eventually saw his game fizzle out.

Pundit Peter Crouch isn’t certain that the Senegal international is good enough for Chelsea moving forward.

“Nicolas Jackson, let’s be honest, is not going to be the answer long-term. He does a lot of great work outside the box, but is he going to get you 15-20 goals? I don’t think so,” Crouch told TNT Sports 2 (3:10pm, 28 October).

Nicolas Jackson wastes chance

It certainly wasn’t the return to the starting line-up that Jackson will have hoped for.

We agree that the young centre-forward does get into some clever positions. He’s got a decent work rate and desire, too.

Unfortunately, he’s not fitting all the pieces of the jigsaw together right now when he’s in the penalty area.
