21-year-old Mykhialo Mudryk really wants Chelsea to sign now scores his first goal in the Champions League

The Champions League this season is likely being used by staff of Chelsea to monitor potential transfer targets, with them not competing in Europe during this campaign.

They will be watching through their fingers as RC Lens forward Elye Wahi has picked up sensational form in the competition, after they missed out on signing him during the last transfer window.

The youngster was one of a number of attackers the club were linked with over the summer as they looked to address their goalscoring woes.

While there were no actual concrete reports to suggest this signing was ever coming, Chelsea winger Mylhailo Mudryk certainly knew who he wanted the club to bring in.

He recommended Ukraine teammate Georgiy Sudakov, saying it would be great if his club side brought in the talented youngster.

The 21-year-old featured in the Champions League last night, as his Shakhtar Donetsk side went up against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Despite going 2-0 down, Sudakov found the net for the first time in the competition to give his side some hope, which was ultimately in vein.

The striker situation is certainly one that looks like it is going to need addressing at Stamford Bridge, with the current options not quite cutting it at the level they desired.

Nicolas Jackson does have a few goals to his name, however in their biggest test of the season so far against Arsenal he was dropped despite being the only fit player in his position.

There have been links with both Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, although the latter is surely more likely at the end of the season.

If Chelsea want to address this issue quickly, they may have to look no further than across West London and to Brentford, the side they face this weekend.
