David de Gea has sent Manchester United fans into meltdown with his latest social media post.
The Spaniard put an end to his 12-year-career at Old Trafford in July, following the expiry of his contract despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove award last season.
In his place, Erik ten Hag signed Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan, who has endured a difficult start to life in Manchester.
The 27-year-old has been at fault for a number of goals this campaign, making errors in United’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray and conceding a soft opener last time out at Old Trafford against Brentford.
Speculation has since arisen among certain corners United’s fan-base that the club could try to re-sign De Gea, who is still without a club.
Rumours circulated after the 32-year-old was spotted at Old Trafford and dining with loan signing Sergio Reguilon.
The shot-stopper has since sent supporters into meltdown once more after he posted a selfie alongside United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, De Gea shared the image accompanied by the caption: “Together again”, alongside a sunglasses emoji.
The pair appear to have been attending an event for Rebels Gaming, a Spanish esports organisation owned by the Spanish goalkeeper.
De Gea is said to be living in his family home in Madrid since leaving England, alongside his wife Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay.
Various reports in the summer claimed De Gea turned down a move to Inter Milan, while he was also linked with a transfer to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The former Spain international is reportedly also considering retirement, should he fail to find a suitable club
