Manchester United fans have shared their lofty ambitions for Kobbie Mainoo after he returned to training at Carrington on Tuesday.

Mainoo has been out of action since July after suffering an ankle injury during the Reds’ pre-season defeat to Real Madrid. The innocuous coming together in the US derailed what had been a brilliant tour for the defensive midfielder.

United supporters had raved about the 18-year-old after his performance against Arsenal which saw Erik ten Hag’s side win 2-0 with Mainoo playing a hand in the opener. Having shown glimpses of his potential last season, fans have been waiting patiently for news on his recovery.

At the weekend, Mainoo was spotted in good spirits alongside Jadon Sancho as they watched the Under-18s beat Newcastle United at Carrington. The teenager seemed to be in even better spirits as he featured alongside his teammates in an open training session ahead of the Champions League clash with Galatasaray at Old Trafford.

The midfielder was seen with the main group undergoing running drills as he continues to step up his recovery. While it is unclear when Mainoo can return to competitive matches it seems almost guaranteed he will feature at some stage this month after returning to training.

After seeing footage of the Stockport-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 midfielder in action, some United fans were quick to share their thoughts on his potential and how he could develop at Old Trafford in the years to come. Take a look at a selection of reaction from X below.

United are awaiting their first victory in this season’s Champions League after a disappointing opening matchday loss to Bayern Munich last month as the Bundesliga side ran out 4-3 winners.

Mainoo was handed his senior Manchester United debut in the Carabao Cup tie against Charlton Athletic in January, helping the Reds to a 3-0 win with Antony netting in the first half before Marcus Rashford bagged two late goals.
