Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist and founder of haircare label Ouai, has added another property to her formidable portfolio. Months after purchasing a US$4.5 million mansion in Los Angeles, Atkin has snapped up two additional estates—one in her hometown of Utah, and another in Seattle, on the shores of Lake Washington for $US4.6 million.
The latter, a modernist, cedar-and-glass structure overlooking the water, was built in 2008 and designed by architect Peter Cohan. Standing at two storeys, the sleek home spans approximately 5,400 square feet, and includes five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, which Atkin now shares with photographer husband Mike Rosenthal. Inside, the primary focus is on natural light and open-plan space. Sliding floor-to-ceiling glass on both levels foster an indoor-outdoor way of living, opening the kitchen and lounging area the grassy knoll and shore just beyond. The home’s interior designer, Elizabeth Stretch, adheres to pale hardwood as a recurring motif throughout, punctuating the tonal palette with pops of black concrete and stone. Upstairs, a master bedroom and ensuite bathroom lead out onto a balcony, which itself overlooks the expansive limestone terrace below.
Comparatively, Atkin’s new property in Utah is more of a pied-à-terre, a single-story home spanning 3,000 square feet that is estimated to have cost the hairstylist around US$1.6 million. Once again, sliding glass doors allow panoramic views—this time, of the rocky canyon surrounds.
