Damian Lillard Would Love to Play With Kevin Durant, and the Portland Trail Blazers Veteran Is Not Even Close

Most fans and analysts today would tell you that the best player is either the reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic or 7-time All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo, both of whom are in their prime. But Damian Lillard wants to disagree. “I’m showing up with Kevin Durant,” Lillard responded when asked who his ideal 2v2 teammate would be.

To say this is a difficult selection would be an understatement, but Lillard understands more than anyone what it takes to be the best, and he has plenty of first-hand experience facing off against Durant and his teams. Speaking to longtime radio host Dan Patrick, he was even put up against the deadly combination of LeBron James and Stephen Curry, but Dame did not budge.

“I think that’s pretty easy… when healthy, I think him and LeBron are right there. I think KD healthy could very well be the best player in the NBA,” Lillard said. Well, Lillard has hinted at his intentions to play alongside Durant before, too.

Once, he posted a picture of him and KD in the Blazers jersey and also reposted one of his tweets that read, “Loyalty has an expiration date.” It was interesting, as all this was happening amidst Kevin Durant’s trade rumors in 2022.

However, the assumption for Durant coming into next season is that he will pick up where he left off. But the Phoenix Suns may not want the same output from him following their string of summer transactions.

Kevin Durant once picked Damian Lillard as the guy to take the game-deciding shot

A video on Instagram went viral in the offseason last year showing Durant saying that if he had to select a player to shoot a game-winning shot, he would go with Damian Lillard. This isn’t really significant in and of itself. Lillard’s clutch ability is highly regarded by other players in the league.

Even Dame knows himself and his potential. When asked the same question, Lillard did not hesitate to take his own name for the job. “Well, I would say me, cus I would be like, let me get it,” he said. Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard have both been clutch throughout their careers.

They’ve made game-winning shots in both the regular season and the playoffs, all of which have become famous in their own way. There isn’t any chance of both superstars playing together as of now. But if it were to come true, fans would be in for a treat.
