Leo was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 on 11th November 1974 in Los Angeles, California. During his BAFTA-winning speech for The Revenant in 2016, Leo said: “I didn’t grow up in a life of privilege. I grew up in a very rough neighbourhood in East Los Angeles.” Yet thankfully, Leo had a very supportive mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, who provided the star with as many opportunities as she could. According to Realtor, after Leo rose to fame, he snapped up this incredible estate high in the Hollywood Hills. The compound is actually formed from two neighbouring properties, one of which Leo purchased from Madonna in the 90s, for a mere $2 million (£1.7m). During his ownership, Leo has renovated and extended the estate, adding a basketball court to the grounds. Various actors have rented Leo’s digs out over the years, including the likes of Tobey Maguire.

When building his basketball court in 2007, the Academy Award-nominated actor reportedly ran into problems with neighbours, Ron and Joan Linclau. They filed a lawsuit against DiCaprio claiming the court destabilised and caused significant structural damage to their property. In 2009 the less than neighbourly lawsuit was settled out of court, according to Dirt.

Earlier in 2022, Leo’s neighbour Joan Linclau passed away before widower Ron sold their home to Leonardo in an off-market deal for $10.5 million (£8.8m). Built in 1963, the four-bedroom home spans 3,527 square feet of living space. Photos of the property are scarce as the property was never listed publicly, but Google maps images show privet hedges planted by the Linclaus and eucalyptus trees, which frame well-kept lawns and offer much-needed privacy for the new celebrity owner.

For more than 20 years, Leonardo DiCaprio owned this chic beach house in Malibu, California. According to Realtor, the actor bought the waterfront property in 1998 for $1.8 million (£1.5m). The star parted ways with the home in November 2021 for $10.3 million (£8.6m) making a rather tasty profit. Yet, it’s not the first time the star has listed it. In 2016 he placed it on the market for a staggering $10.9 million (£9.1m).

We can see why Leo snapped this pad up, but we can’t quite understand why he’d want to say goodbye. Yet, a year later, in 1999, Leo continued to add to his portfolio by buying a four-bed and four-and-a-half-bath pad in Silver Lake for $769,000 (£640k) which he offloaded in 2018 for just shy of $1.6 million (£1.3m).

Like many millionaires, Leonardo DiCaprio has purchased himself a private paradise island—and it didn’t cost him nearly as much as you might expect. Leo paid just over $1.7 million ($1.4m) in 2005 for Blackadore Caye, a 104-acre isle off the coast of Belize. According to the New York Times, the Oscar-winning star is planning on opening an eco resort on the island, much like this one on South Water Caye. The luxury hideaway was set to open in 2018, but so far there’s no news of when it might be finished.

Getting to be quite the property developer, in 2014 Leo also snapped up a $2 million (£1.7m) 1930s ranch located in the Los Angeles suburb of Studio City, which he sold in 2016 for $2.2 million (£1.8m). He also bought a $10 million (£8.3m) condo in Greenwich Village, which he flipped back onto the market again two years later at a reported $2 million loss (£1.7m).

In 2018, Leo purchased this dreamy historic home from DJ, and personal friend, Moby, paying $4.9 million (£4m) for the privilege—reportedly some $400,000 (£333k) over the original asking price. The charming Tudor-inspired home sits on a 9,700-square-foot lot in the Los Feliz neighbourhood of Los Angeles and is bordered by the 4,300-acre Griffith Park.

Dating back to 1928, this historic home was purchased by Leo in May 2021 for $7.1 million (£5.9m). The Titanic star purchased the pad from Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and his husband Justin Mikita, who bought the estate back in 2013 for a snip under $4.6 million (£3.8m). According to the listing, the house was on the market for just seven days—and once you see inside, you’ll understand why Leo was easily persuaded to put his hand in his pocket…

As the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ferguson knows a thing or two about interior design, but called in support from former Will & Grace set decorator, Peter Gurski, who transformed the once all-white interior into the colourful and eclectic retreat it is today. Key design details include original beehive floors, European stone fireplaces, hand-stencilled ceilings and stained glass windows.

Yet Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Tyler Ferguson aren’t the only celebrities to have owned this dreamy estate. Both Robert Pattinson and Gwen Stefani have also called the place home. Stefani, who lived here with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, is thought to have bought the estate back in 1998 for $1.4 million (£1.2m), and is said to be responsible for adding plenty of rock star-worthy extras to the home, including the impressive swimming pool that can be found in the backyard.
