Although she is renowned for her beauty, which has landed her multiple beauty contracts, she admits “I think I’ve got really weird features. I have very large features on a very small head. But, you know, I’m not going to beat myself up. It’s my face. I’m not very pretty.”

“You just want to be cookie-cutter beautiful. And sometimes you think, ‘Maybe I could change something about myself to fit that mould’. I’m no exception to that.” The actress praises her facial features for helping her play a versatile range of characters on-screen.
“I just made a movie where I play a recovering drug addict and I look really rough,” she explained in a 2008 interview. “Your face needs to have character if you’re going to be an actor, or you’re just kind of a face. You’re not really a person or a personality.”
She had admitted that she doesn’t think she would ever change her features with surgery. “If there’s anything in my power to change myself, I’ll do it but in terms of radically changing myself for self-esteem or anything, no, I don’t think I’ll ever do that.”

She admitted that at the start of her career she loved acting because it helped her ignore the big issues.”Of course, I loved [acting back then] because it meant that I got to leave this moment and be someone else,” she says. “Of course, that came easily when the thing that felt impossible at the time was actually being present.”
For a cover interview with ELLE, Hathaway also briefly explained her self-love journey, saying, “I do my best to not be afraid of what others might say and just focus on enjoying my life.” Hathaway was met with a string of internet hate during the promotional tour of Les Misérables.

On any level. I would no longer create art from this place. I would no longer hold space for it, live in fear of it, nor speak its language for any reason.”
“To anyone. Including myself… Hate seems to me to be the opposite of life; in soil that harsh, nothing can grow properly, if at all.”
