Anne Hathaway reminisced on stepping in for Sarah Jessica Parker last minute at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards.
Hathaway, 41, opened up about a number of her past ensembles during an episode of Vogue’s “Life in Looks” series, published via YouTube on Tuesday, October 29. One of her most memorable getups came at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards, when she unexpectedly stepped in for Parker, 59, to host the evening.
“This is so nice,” she said while looking at her red carpet photo. “I was a last minute replacement for Sarah Jessica Parker,” Hathaway added, giggling. For the evening, she donned a denim set by Ralph Lauren, sharing that she “really wanted to wear an American Designer for the awards,” which highlight top American fashion talent.
“It’s always very fun when you go to one of these events,” Hathaway said. “The room is full of fashion people who don’t hide the fact that you walk in and they look you up and down.”
Hathaway stepped in for the And Just Like That actress less than a week before the big night, after Parker was “unable to host the awards ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances,” according to a press release at the time.
Elsewhere in the YouTube video, Hathaway praised how “soft” the denim outfit was, which featured a strapless corset vest with invisible buttons and a white toile print. The actress teamed the top with an A-line skirt that cascaded into a pleated train and featured the same blue-and-white pattern.

“Now I’m remembering the feeling of the fabric,” Hathaway gushed. “You have no idea how soft this denim was.”
She completed her ensemble with a diamond and sapphire statement necklace, matching earrings and soft glam.
Following the awards, Hathaway slipped into something 𝓈ℯ𝓍y for the evening — a sheer red Rodarte gown that hugged her curves in all the right places. The design was equipped with black rose details, delicate beading and a tulle hem. Underneath, she wore nude lingerie.
