It feels like every time he steps foot on a rugby field Antoine Dupont produces some kind of magic that leaves spectators stunned by his rugby brilliance.
Once again that was evident over the weekend as the France international scrum-half shocked those watching in club side Toulouse’s victory against Pau on the road.
Leading 15-7 with just over an hour played in the Top 14 meeting, Dupont dipped into his box of tricks and produced an epic back-door pass for Guillaume Cramont.
Smiling Dupont
The replacement hooker collected the perfectly directed pass and barged his way over the whitewash to make it 22-7 in a score that Dupont celebrated with a smile.
Dupont’s incredible no-look pass comes just a week after he crossed for a hat-trick of tries inside 12 minutes after coming off the bench as a second-half replacement.
Unsurprisingly social media lapped up the Toulouse star’s latest moment of magic, with ex-Newcastle, Toulon and Northampton Saints back Tom May lauding him.
“This is becoming a joke. Every week something ridiculous from Antoine Dupont. Imagine how slowly he sees things happening. Rain man rugby brain. He’s operating in a different space to the rest of the rugby world at the moment,” May wrote on X, with journalist Paul Eddison adding: “Another week, another Dupont highlight.”
“Dupont is just completing side quests now,” was EK Rugby Analysis response to the pass as the France scrum-half appears to have returned from his break on song.
Planet Rugby’s Jared Wright appreciated something else about the pass, writing on X: “The best thing about this Antoine Dupont pass is that it was the best option.”
“Your weekly dose of ‘What ridiculous thing has Antoine Dupont this time?’” was the introduction for the video from Tight Five Rugby as the praise kept coming.
The 22-14 away victory over Pau took Toulouse to the Top 14 summit ahead of Bordeaux-Begles, who travel to La Rochelle in Sunday’s final match of Round Seven.
