Chelsea star denied Bayern Munich ‘dream’ transfer despite January exit still on the cards

Forgotten Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah could be set to leave the club in the January transfer, but it may not be the move to Bayern Munich he would have hoped for.

Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah may have been denied a dream move to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, if recent reports are to be believed. The Cobham academy graduate had been linked with a switch to Bavaria in the summer, leading to a potential link up with former Blues coach Thomas Tuchel.

It was the German manager that had truly given Chalobah his breakthrough in the senior team, following three seasons of loan spells. Starting as a centre-back in a back three, the academy star had impressed in the UEFA Super Cup enough to earn regular minutes in the Premier League.

One Club World Cup medal later and the youngster had signed a new long-term deal with Chelsea, which would keep him until 2028. Things were looking up for him, but the club were through into uncertain times as ownership switching at the top caused sweeping changes across the board.

Three managerial changes were made, with a whole host of young stars signed for the positions that Chalobah can play, throwing doubt over his future. Even with the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, an exit in the summer seemed likely but never truly came once the curtain fell on the transfer window.

Luck hasn’t been on the 24-year-old’s side since as injuries have kept him out for the majority of the season, having yet to play a single minute under new management. With the defender angling for a return in the near future, there could well be a possible exit on the cards in January.
