Kevin Durant Explains Why Suns Will Be Unguardable

Kevin Durant got honest about why he thinks the Suns will be unguardable this season.

The Phoenix Suns are coming into the 2023/24 season with one of the fiercest teams in the NBA. Kevin Durant believes his partnership with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal will lead to the Suns being a completely unguardable team.

“You can’t guard all of us at once. Especially when guys like Booker can beat a double team. We have to play fundamentally sound ball, not turn the ball over, and we’ll be in solid shape on offense.”

This may be the most offensively gifted trio we’ve seen in a long time. Durant and Beal are both former scoring leaders in the league, while Booker probably would’ve ascended to a similar level if he didn’t have to share the ball with the other two right now.

Durant averaged 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season, playing just eight regular season games for the Suns. Bradley Beal averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in a down year with the Wizards, while Booker averaged 27.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Kevin Durant AIming For A Championship

The sole goal of creating such a top-heavy roster for the Suns is to ensure a championship can come to the franchise this season. Durant knows that the expectation is to win a championship or be heavily mocked by fans after the construction of this superteam. Durant openly said that he doesn’t think the Suns should be dropping games this season, given their strength on paper.

“I always feel like we should be winning every game. A championship is always the goal… we’ll see what happens. Obviously, if we don’t win the title, we’ll get pounced on.”

Winning a title isn’t easy, but the Durant and Booker combo worked really well in the playoffs for the Suns. Despite having a makeshift roster after the Durant trade, the Suns got to six games in the second round, losing to the eventual champions.

Booker averaged 33.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last playoffs and Durant averaged 29.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. They’ll hope to build on these solid numbers by adding Beal to the mix and making their offense virtually unstoppable.

Bradley Beal Knows Sacrifice Is Needed For Their Success

There’s a saying in basketball. ‘There’s only one ball’, and that’s a saying the Suns will have to imbibe this season. Having scorers like Durant, Booker, and Beal on the court at the same time won’t always be good value because only one of the three players will shoot at a time. This means they need to be patient with each other and sacrifice shots to keep everyone happy, as Beal discussed last week.

“It will be a change for everyone… It will be an adjustment for everybody. It will have to be a little sacrifice… we are all unselfish guys. We all just want to hoop, we all just want to win.”

Beal hasn’t been in the playoffs since 2021, making it alongside Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards. However, the Wizards never stood a chance at competing seriously. Beal averaged 30.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in that run. He hasn’t had a lot of playoff games in his career, especially in the last five seasons.

The three stars will have to find their chemistry as the season progresses. Hopefully, it progresses well and allows them to at least be in the conversation to win the title.
