‘Some people don’t realise’: £40m man was absolutely desperate to join Chelsea this summer – journalist

Chelsea signing Cole Palmer was really keen on leaving Manchester City during the summer.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

In his column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Jacobs said “some people don’t realise” that Cole Palmer wanted to leave City and also claimed that the Premier League champions had to respect his wishes when Chelsea came knocking as the 21-year-old looked for more game time.

Palmer has been getting that since his £40m move to Stamford Bridge.

He started in Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Burnley over the weekend and managed to score and assist during the game.

Cole Palmer made the right decision

If Palmer’s decision to leave City and join Chelsea was purely based on game time, then yes, he has probably made the correct call.

Mason Mount and Kai Havertz both left Stamford Bridge in the summer, so the England U21 international should get opportunities to play in the No.10 position.

Palmer has mostly been playing on the right since joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though, so his manager looks prepared to make use of his versatility, which is a good thing. It means the former City man has more than one route into the team.

Is Palmer going to win as much at Chelsea as he could have at City? With the way his new side have been playing lately, probably not.

However, what seems important to Palmer at this moment in time is his development, which could have been halted at the Etihad given all of the attacking options Pep Guardiola possesses.
