It star Bill Skargård becomes the Joker in James Gunn’s DC Universe through horrifying new fan art, imagining what he could look like as the DC foe.
With rumors about being up for Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy, DC Universe fans instead depict Bill Skarsgård as Joker through new fan art. As the DCEU concludes its run in 2023, DC Studios are not wasting any time replacing it as they are working on their new DC Universe franchise. Through James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new leadership, the hope is to build a new interconnected universe that will be able to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As DC Studios are working on several upcoming DC Universe movies and TV shows, there will be an endless list of heroes and villains to cast in the new universe. For the Joker, a popular fancasting is that of Bill Skarsgård, which has now been depicted in new fan art by Youssef Defenshi.
This Joker fan art comes as Skarsgård, along with his brother Alexander, have been rumored to be eyed for Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. Whether or not either of them is still up for the iconic Superman villain has yet to be clarified following the official casting of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Could Bill Skarsgård Actually Play The Joker In The DC Universe
Time will tell if Skarsgård ends up getting cast as Lex or anyone else in Superman: Legacy, but it does beg the question if he could actually play Joker in Gunn’s DC Universe. With DC Studios developing Batman: The Brave and The Bold, it is hard to imagine that Bruce Wayne’s new film series won’t have Joker at some point. Even if he isn’t in the first film, it is only a matter of time before Joker makes his way into the new DC Universe.
Even before Skarsgård was reported to be a frontrunner for Superman: Legacy, many have suggesting him as a perfect Joker casting. Given that he has already played one infamous bloodthirsty clown as Pennywise in the It movies, Skarsgård has proven that he would be amazing as the Joker. At the same time, it wouldn’t be shocking if someone like the Joker is a role that Skarsgård would turn down, given how similar the Clown Prince of Crime and Pennywise are.
Whether he would be cast as Joker or Lex, having someone as big as Bill Skarsgård in the DC Universe would be a major win for DC Studios. From his impressive body of work, Skarsgård has quickly become a hot name in Hollywood, and his audience would easily follow him if he joined the DC Universe. But for now, time will tell if the actor lands a role in the DC Universe or not.
