Lewis Hamilton, English race car driver and velvet-slipper evangelist, emerged at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival yesterday. But before he slipped into a slim-cut tuxedo, he made sure to make an appearance wearing some heavily branded Puma gear.
Puma might be paying him to wear the clothes—it’s the official outfitter of Hamilton’s Formula One team—but we’ll take the bait because the guy looked dope (like, this-is-how-every-guy-should-look-hitting-the-gym dope).

Whether you’re into Puma or not, the important takeaway here is this: You could stand to venture away from strictly black and gray workout gear. Black is slimming and looks decent even after a grueling workout, sure, but you’re missing out if you completely check your sense of style at your trainer’s door.
You don’t have to go full Hamilton, but one or two technical, top-of-the-line items in a bright color or print will do a lot for your game. You’ll look like a guy who could feasibly go to the Cannes Film Festival, which is not something you can say about plain black basketball shorts.
