The mid-century home is located in Los Angeles’s celebrity-favored enclave Calabasas

A gated Spanish-style estate, which hit the market Friday for $6.35 million, was owned by the “Queen of Funk” Chaka Khan, said listing agent Stephen Udoff, an agent affiliated with the Malibu office of Coldwell Banker Realty.

But the home is notable for things far beyond its former residence and is replete with unique features both inside and out, including a petting zoo.

Built in 1947 and surrounded by lush greenery, the five-bedroom main house is laden with rustic charm, and boasts tile floors, exposed brick and stone, beamed ceilings, wood-paneled walls, and mountain views from every significant room, according to the listing.

There’s a living room with a circular seating area and a fire pit, a chef’s kitchen with a pizza oven and barbecue grill, a breakfast area, a formal dining area, a library, and a study.

The large primary suite is fitted with a natural rock fireplace, a private natural spa, a walk-in closet, and an exercise room, all with views of the surrounding nature through a wall of windows.

Elsewhere on the 5.5-acre property is a poolside cantina, complete with a bar, tables, and space for games, and a horse corral with box stalls and enclosures for chickens and peacocks.

Along with the petting zoo area, there’s a koi fish-filled lake, a greenhouse, flourishing fruit trees, a small vineyard, a natural waterfall that cascades into another koi-filled pond, and a spacious tortoise habitat complete with a nighttime cave.

The seller, who couldn’t be reached for comment, acquired the home in 1984 from Khan, a representative for the brokerage said.
